Dear Colleague,

I’m writing to inform you of a very recent development that directly affects our provider clients and partners.  As you may be aware, Congress passed a bill Monday, March 31, 2014 that will delay the implementation of ICD-10-CM/PCS until October 1, 2015. The bill now moves to President Obama, who is expected to sign it into law.

The delay was packaged within a bill addressing the physician compensation “fix” to the Medicare sustainable growth rate (SGR).  For more information please see the article in the Journal of AHIMA at:  http://journal.ahima.org/2014/03/31/senate-votes-on-icd-10-delay-bill/

This additional year delay will have a profound impact on providers who have invested significant resources into planning for this year’s deadline.  In light of this, the UCF REC is taking a proactive approach in notifying our Clients and partners of the delay.  Rest assured that the UCF REC will continue to provide affordable and effective ICD-10 trainings to meet your organization’s goals.

We have already begun reevaluating our training programs to address the 17 month timeline so that organizations have sufficient time for staff to train and practice the skills necessary to effectively transition to ICD-10.  As soon as we have more information on our training sessions and webinars we will communicate that to you directly via email and on our website at www.ucf-rec.org/events.

The UCF REC is here to assist you achieve your health information technology objectives in 2014 and beyond.  Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us with any questions or needs you may have for ICD-10 or any of our other services including EHR adoption, Meaningful Use, Patient Centered Medical Home, and Billing Auditing.

We look forward to continuing to work with your organization as together we continue to lead quality improvement and healthcare transformation in Florida.

Regards,
